Online Therapy
It’s yet another weekday morning…
You’ve already finished a few meetings and have over an hour until your next commitment.
There’s time… but not that much time.
You thought about getting a cup of coffee from the nearest Starbucks. But by the time you order on the app, grab your car keys, park in front of the shop (seeing the long drive-through line), go in, get out, and drive back, it’ll be 30 minutes by the time you get back to your desk!
Fuel up your well-being without fueling your car.
In the time to go back and forth for a couple of coffees, you could have gotten something done – that “high priority” that you never get around to:
Self-care.
Whether in your office building or working from home, online therapy makes it much easier to fit self-care into your busy schedule. You don’t have to worry about the hassle of travel… or even leaving your desk!
Talk about a more productive use of your time!
Going virtual gives you more control and options.
Time is only one of the advantages online therapy gives you as a client and me as a therapist.
Crisis happens. With online therapy, you can get on my schedule much more quickly. I always do my best to accommodate urgent requests, and it’s much easier to do that if I don’t have to factor in the time to drive back and forth to an office.
And when you do therapy online, you can work with any therapist in your state. That widens your choices significantly because you’re not limited to a therapist close to your home or work. That’s convenient, and it also avoids the situation where you awkwardly run into your therapist at community meetings, kids’ school, or grocery store!
Your therapist is someone you’ll confide in – with whom you’ll spend hours talking and sharing your most vulnerable moments. Your choice matters. If that therapist happens to be me, you won’t have to worry about the distance between us!
It all sounds good, but is it as good as in-person therapy?
Online therapy is the most personal, comfortable therapy possible!
You can sit in your favorite chair or couch, wear comfy clothes, sip your favorite tea or coffee in your personal mug, have your preferred tissues close, and clutch your favorite blanket.
I often find the art on your wall, the pet on your lap, and where you sit as interesting conversation-starters.
Most of us are more relaxed and open in a familiar environment. That’s what a therapist usually strives for when decorating their office. But it can never be as customized as your own room, can it?
And as an experienced therapist, I will perceive the subtlety of your words, notice changes in your body language, and sense your energy through the screen.
Technology has made everything faster, more convenient, and accessible…
And it’s done the same for therapy.
I use a HIPAA-compliant medical record system called SimplePractice. As the name suggests, it’s SIMPLE:
You can e-sign the consent and notice of privacy practice.
You can securely store payment methods for automatic charge after the session.
You can schedule, cancel, or reschedule sessions on my calendar.
You can easily request or retrieve invoices and documentation via the portal.
